Whoops! Subway Train Departs with TV Reporter On Board During Live Broadcast

Exit stage left

There is nothing quite like live news to capture everything from important historical events to footage of crazy reporters tying themselves to trees during typhoons. Of course, live television broadcasts don’t always go smoothly, such as a recent story of a reporter on a subway train being whisked away mid-report as the cameraman was left standing on the platform.

In a recent Hunan eTV live segment on the opening of the Line 2 extension of the Changsha Metro, the reporter misjudged the departure time of the subway train. Scheduled to depart West Meixi Lake Station at 12:30pm, the reporter was clearly caught off-guard as the subway doors closed, taking the reporter broadcasting live with it.

Another explanation of course is that the gaffe was deliberate. As part of the Hunan Broadcasting System (HBS), Hunan eTV is part of China’s biggest television network, second only to state-run CCTV. Hunan eTV has become so big that the station now broadcasts to audiences in Hong Kong and North America.

With huge hits on their roster such as the immensely popular reality shows, Super Girl and Daddy, Where Are We Going?, as well variety show Day Day Up, HBS knows a thing or two about what viewers want to see, including embarrassing gaffes.

We don’t know if this was an accident or simply a media stunt. What the video can tell us however is that the subways are running just fine in Changsha.
