Two towering hallmarks of Asian culture have come together in the perfect combination of kitsch and peppercorn spice at the new Hello Kitty hot pot restaurant in Shanghai.
The restaurant is decorated in the motifs of the world’s most recognizable cat, a feature that is extended to the food as dumplings are stamped with the feline’s face.
The first in mainland China, the new restaurant comes on the heels of other officially licensed hot pot locations that opened up this past year in Hong Kong and Taipei.
Hello Kitty has been steadily branching out into licensed restaurants.
Bistro Bianco Hello Kitty, Shanghai’s first “authorized Hello Kitty-themed restaurant”, opened in April of this year. The two-story facility sells merchandise on the first floor, and serves diners on the second. Beijing has its own Hello Kitty restaurant called “Hello Kitty Dreams”.
