Chinese tourists are continuing to make a name for themselves abroad, but it isn’t a good name.
A woman identified as a Chinese national was seen airing out her underwear in the waiting hall of the Chiang Mai Airport in Thailand. The underwear, laying out in the open on top of seats in the airport’s waiting area, was photographed and posted to Twitter, after which it was prominently featured during the broadcast of a popular Thai morning TV show.
Even though other details are lacking, the report noted that the bra was “brightly colored and hard to miss”.
With national pride at stake, the news drew the attention of many Chinese netizens. One user didn’t believe it, saying, “Where is it confirmed that this is a Chinese woman?” Another provided the retort, “That’s right, how could we ever be sure that this is a Chinese person?” and added a stupefied emoji for emphasis.
This incident represents an act of shame to many Chinese. “The loss of face is so great that it goes beyond our borders!” one netizen said.
