Smokers Beware: Cigarette Taxes Just Doubled Overnight in China

Taxes raised from 5 to 11 percent

If you’re a smoker in China, you probably noticed the price of cigarettes just went up. Taxes on all cigarettes sold in China have more than doubled from five percent to 11 percent to coincide with an anti-smoking campaign across the country.

On June 1, smoking will be banned at all public spaces in Beijing, while smoking was also recently banned on Chinese television programs.
