Bought a new iPhone in HK? Now you can use 4G in Shenzhen, Guangzhou

China Mobile is upgrading its system to allow anyone who has purchased an iPhone 5s or 5c in Hong Kong to use its high-speed network in Shenzhen.

Up until now, users had to purchase phones sold through China Mobile or compatible with its network in order to use 4G. Those who had iPhones – or other overseas models – were relegated to 3G coverage or worse.

The good news for iPhone buyers is that the upgrade won’t take long, and won’t be too troublesome.

“Our upgrade service is free of charge and people don’t need to change their phone numbers. The upgrade takes less than 20 minutes,” said an employee at a China Mobile outlet on Yitian Road in Futian District.

The woman added that the free upgrade is available at all of the operator’s outlets in the city.

“We have not been informed of when China Mobile will start selling iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C smartphones at its local outlets,” she added.

Now you just have to try and get your hands on one in Hong Kong.
