The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei megacity will be equipped with 23 new subway lines anticipated to be completed by 2030.
Travel times between major urban areas are expected to be between one and two hours, while travel times from a city center to outlying suburbs is projected to take from 30 minutes to an hour.
The 3,400 kilometer long network will consist of three main lines connecting Beijing with Tianjin, Hebei’s capital Shijiazhuang, and port Qinhuangdao.
With an anticipated population of 130 million and projected cost of 42 trillion yuan, the future megacity has been called the future “legacy” of Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, plans for the ambitious project have already fallen behind schedule. Last year, Caijing predicted the transportation network serving the future megacity would be completed by 2020, a full decade earlier than the revised timeline.
