A popular Shenzhen noodle restaurant has closed after 32 diners suffered food poisoning, with one of them in serious condition in hospital.
The victims are suspected to have eaten contaminated rice noodle rolls at the Huacheng restaurant, in the city’s Luohu District.
After the Department of Disease Control found traces of nitrites in the restaurant’s water and rice flour supplies, the restaurant was immediately shut down. Police are now investigating.
It has been a rough year for Shenzhen noodle shops. According to the Shenzhen Health and Safety Commission, a third of all noodles sold in the city are contaminated and unfit for consumption.
