In those really intense kind of relationships, a bad breakup can sometimes end with a broken heart or two. In really intense relationships, sometimes refusing to break up can get you stabbed and very much dead.
In Guangzhou, 15-year-old “Zhang” decided that after proposing to her boyfriend that it was time to call it quits, and getting refused, the next best option was to stab him four times in the back and…problem solved.
A court in Guangzhou’s Yuexiu district recently made an initial ruling that Zhang deserves a fixed term of 4.5 years in prison for the crime of intentional injury.
According to court documents referenced by Southern Metropolis Daily, Zhang grew up in a small town in Guangdong and dropped out of school early due in part to a dysfunctional home situation. Her relationship with her ex-boyfriend reportedly began for Zhang at an early age; as the couple constantly fought, Zhang proposed that they break up on multiple occasions, on each of which her boyfriend, unfortunately for him, just would not let go.
Their last big showdown took place on June 29 last year. After yet another rejected breakup, Zhang pulled out a new knife that cost her just 6 RMB and stabbed the guy in the back when he tried to hug her.
He fell in a pool of his own blood. Zhang called an ambulance. It was too late; the guy died of excessive bleeding that night.
Does she regret it? Zhang’s family compensated her boyfriends’ family with 80,000 RMB in hopes of winning forgiveness following the tragedy.
At her sentencing, the judge noted that Zhang was given a light sentence as she turned herself in, and also because she was a minor at the time of the murder.
