I have heard various types of “food appropriation” arguments over the years and don’t agree with any of them, really. In China, many people believe race, nationality, and culture are all the same thing. But, to me, they are all very different. I know plenty of Chinese people in the US who don’t speak Chinese or like Chinese food but know many Westerners in China who speak fluent Chinese and try to live very “local” lives. The connection a person feels with a culture can’t always be determined by their skin color or place of origin.

Folks grow up and accept the fact that you aren’t the center of the universe and there are many wonderful cultural experiences to be shared by all cultures in all countries. If you can’t accept that than you should boycott KFC while in China, an unique American cultural food experience.
