I have a very small dog, a papillon, and I am always shocked at the level of terror people have when I take her for walks. Children will cry, teenagers (boys and girls) will whimper and jump away, and adults will cross the street.
While more Chinese are accepting of dogs as pets, they are still considered a luxury and expendable by many. It is very interesting to see how the Chinese aversion to dogs isn’t merely because many people have been unable to afford them as pets, but that pets in general have been culturally rejected for generations.
