All riders were safely rescued by 9:15pm by firefighters.

One of the riders, a Miss Meng, said the ordeal began at 7:48pm. She said the experience was a harrowing one in which she became dizzy and had chest pains during the first 30 minutes.

Although the park offered apologies and free bottles of water to frightened riders, they were not willing to issue refunds for park admission.

Incidents involving amusement park rides in China over the past few years have stranded a number of riders, and in some cases have resulted in fatalities.

Sixteen riders on a roller coaster at the Wanda theme park in Nanchang, Jiangxi were stranded 70 meters above the ground for an hour when it suddenly malfunctioned in May.

This past June, a malfunctioning roller coaster at an amusement park in Quanzhou, Fujian left riders stranded 30 meters above the ground for 30 minutes.

In March, the Crystal Heavenly Wing roller coaster malfunction at the Happy Valley amusement park in Beijing, stranding 26 riders 30 meters above ground for 20 minutes before they were rescued.

In September of last year, a mother and her son were seriously injured when they were flung from a giant octopus ride in Wuhan.

On Labor Day last year, two people were killed when five riders were thrown off the “Scream Crazy” ride located at an amusement park in Zhejiang.

Last April, 19 people were injured when an amusement park ride at a temple fair in Henan broke in half, throwing its riders to the ground.

Thrill seekers at an amusement park in Fujian received more than they bargained for when the ride they were on suddenly malfunctioned, stranding them for hours while suspended 30 meters in the air.

The ride, at a park in Quanzhou, suddenly stopped on its own at 3pm on Monday.

The last rider was rescued at 5pm after firefighters used ladders to reach the stranded riders, described as mostly students enjoying themselves on summer break.

According to a park spokesperson named Yao, the malfunction is likely due to a steel wire getting caught in the ride mechanism.

The riders say the worst park of their experience was being caught in the sun with no shade. They said they were able to prevent themselves from becoming afraid by chatting to each other.

A roller coaster ride turned into a nightmare after 16 riders were left stranded 70 meters above the ground for over an hour.

The incident occurred on Monday at the Wanda theme park in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. The “Coaster Through the Clouds” suddenly came to a halt while climbing the ride’s steep incline.

It took park employees 20 minutes just to get to the riders. Once there, each rider’s safety harness had to be manually removed. Only after every rider was free did they make their decent on a narrow staircase.

This past March, 26 riders were left hanging 30 meters upside down for 20 minutes after the “Crystal Heavenly Wing” roller coaster came to an abrupt halt at Happy Valley Amusement Park in Beijing.

Last year Labor Day, an accident claimed two fatalities when five people fell off the “Crazy Scream” ride at an amusement park in Zhejiang when their safety harnesses were not properly secured. Last fall, a mother and her son sustained serious injuries when they were flung into the air from a giant octopus ride in Wuhan. And in April 2015, 19 people were injured at a temple fair in Henan when an amusement ride broke in half.

Universal Studios is coming to China.

First announced last September, plans for the park to be built in Tongzhou, an eastern suburban district of Beijing, were confirmed with a signing that took place on the weekend.

Upon completion in 2019, the park will be the largest Universal Studios theme park in the world, occupying  just over two million square meters of floor space. The total cost of the park is estimated at 50 billion yuan ($7.98 billion).

The first stage of the project involves the construction of a Universal CityWalk retail-entertainment complex and the world’s first Universal-themed resort hotel. The project’s second stage involves another theme park, a water park, and five other resort hotels.

The project has been in the works since 2001 and initially had a proposed budget of only 20 billion yuan.

Just like the future Disneyland theme park near Shanghai, Chinese elements will be incorporated into the design of the Universal Studios theme park. According to the culture and tourism administration bureau of Tongzhou district, the idea is to “boost the city’s tourist appeal to foreign visitors.”

Beijing Metro Line 7, which currently ends at Jiaohuachang Station in the east, will be extended to the theme park.

An increasing number of theme parks and attractions have opened in China recently, mostly around Shanghai. This year saw the official opening of Hello Kitty World, while 2016 will see the opening of Disneyland Shanghai and LEGOLAND Discovery Center.

In other recent theme park developments, Shanghai announced that 153 factories located near the Disneyland theme park will be closed due to pollution concerns.

A mother and her three year-old son sustained serious injuries last Saturday afternoon after they were flung into the air from an amusement park ride in Wuhan.

The woman was flung with such force that she broke three bars of the steel railing surrounding the ride, breaking a vertabrae in her lower back. The boy, also flung, was bleeding from the nose and ears after hitting his head on the ground.

Both victims were sent to hospital for medical treatment. They are currently in stable but serious condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Called the “Giant Octopus”, the amusement ride is located in the city’s Zhongshan Park.

Bystander Miss Liu described the scene of the incident:

After the child was flung outside the fence, he was crying heavily, but remained motionless on the ground. The mother was dazed for a number of seconds, and then sat herself upright against the fence.

Miss Ding, the woman’s cousin, said that the ride “seemed to run faster than any other time before” while they were on it. Reports say the only safety device onboard the “Giant Octopus” is a safety bar held across the riders’ lap.

This isn’t the first injury to occur at an amusement park this year. This past Labor Day, two people died when five riders on a ride called “Crazy Scream” in Zhejiang were thrown off. Back in April, 19 people were injured after being thrown off an amusement ride at a temple fair in Henan.

Iger emphasized that Shanghai Disneyland will be both “authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese”. The features and attractions include:
