The foreigner was lying, but he was lying about hitting the woman according to what you’ve said.

I stand by my assertion that a foreigner wouldn’t have much luck running a scam. It doesn’t mean that foreigners are inherently more honest or trustworthy though.

Hit hit a woman on his illegal motorped thing. Woman then told him you should pay my medical bills. The net community jumped all over her saying she was a scammer.

It turned out on video surveillance he REALLY did hit her. His motorped was illegal AND he was teaching illegally with his father too.

Chinese “rushing” to help isn’t quite what happened. He was surrounded by locals. Looking poorly. Hands on knees. I was passing by. Stopped and asked if he was OK. He said he thought so. But he looked bad so I walked him over to the pillar to sit down. After he sat, he passed out. I caught his head before it hit the tile floor. (That’s my bag under his head.) He convulsed, then woke. I told one local nice lady to call an ambulance. I got his business card, called his office, spoke with his wife. Guy next to me offered his coat. Then granny showed up and kindly pressed his wrists TCM style. When emergency services showed, I told the guy to check for stroke. I’ve since spoken to the foreigner (CEO of a local company). He’s doing fine. The local hospital gave him a thorough check up. (Because he was in local news? Don’t know.) Like anywhere. Some helped. Many gawked. All people are capable of great good and of failing in crisis. Don’t judge; just try your utmost daily.

So do you have dishonest foreigners who might try it if they thought it would work in China, yeah probably? We’ve seen the odd foreigners begging for money in train stations (Guangzhou, Shenzhen) who were trying to scam money from people.

Loathe means hate intensely, loath means unwilling to, so the saying is actually ‘loath to admit’.

I remember opening my eyes and seeing tons of faces, all trying to help me get up. I was pinned under the motorcycle and they lifted the bike and pulled me out from underneath and helped me to the sidewalk. I can state that the Chinese people are more than willing to help a foreigner. I have also had three friends scammed by old people faking injuries (luckily for small sums since the police just asked them to pay to shut up the old person). Complete double standard.
