A woman in Huizhou attempted suicide on August 13 after she had strangled her husband’s nephew to avenge his suspected cheating on her with his sister-in-law, according to Nanfang Daily.

The woman, who lives in the city’s Maidi District, tried to kill herself by slashing her wrist but was rescued after her husband called an ambulance. Neighbours at her apartment building on Maidi South Road said they had seen the 12-year-old nephew come to the woman’s house two days earlier, and it later emerged that she had invited him from his home in Dongping District to “play.”

On August 13, the boy’s mother, who the woman suspected of having an affair with her husband, called his mobile phone, but she was not very worried that he didn’t answer because he was with his mother. At around 8 that evening, neighbours in the apartment building heard a man screaming.

Neighbours rushed up to the fifth floor and saw the husband who had already called the police to say, “A child is dead, a woman is killing herself.” Neighbours saw the woman crouching in a pool of her own blood.

The boy was dead when paramedics arrived. There was no evidence of a struggle.

The husband expressed panic when his own son’s whereabouts were unknown, but it emerged that he was staying with a relative and was safe.

The woman, now recovered, is being held for questioning.
