Roof Collapses On Shenzhen Residents Seeking Refuge During Rainstorm, Three Dead [UPDATED]
Posted: 07/18/2014 2:32 pmAn awning covering the entrance to the entrance of the Shenzhen Luohu Rencai Market has collapsed, injuring several people, reports the Shenzhen Evening Report.
The incident occurred at around 11:55am. Emergency services are still on the scene trying to secure the area.
Eyewitness say many city residents had taken refuge under the awning at the time it collapsed because of heavy rains.
Hurricane Rammasun is due to make landfall on mainland China today, and will bring more heavy rain and strong winds to much of Guangdong Province.
UPDATE 1, 4:07pm July 18: One person is confirmed dead and eight injured from the roof collapse, reports MSN.
Another report states that the concrete roof of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China located at #2039 Bao’an North Road in Luohu District is what collapsed upon the victims.
Up until 2 pm, there were still victims trapped in the wreckage, including a girl.
