I'm not even from mainland China, but when I visited HK I tried to speak Mandarin and was basically treated like trash. People, especially young people, would pretend to not understand or say that they weren't Chinese at all. I can't imagine how that poor student must feel going through that on a daily basis. HK'ers have an undeserved sense of entitlement and treat outsiders poorly, not just Mainlanders. Is this the monster the Brits intended to create? They have no culture left. They are a homogeneous pot of nothing but suits and ties and commercialism. Is that something to be proud of? HK’ers are also seriously discriminant against anything and everything Chinese.
