New mall, “Happy Valley”, opens in Guangzhou
Posted: 01/17/2012 9:18 amPearl River New Town (珠江新城) is quickly becoming the go-to place in Guangzhou. It’s already home to many of the city’s top eateries and watering holes, and now a major shopping mall is moving in.
Happy Valley, as it’s known, is run by a consortium of companies but is led by MIBC International Luxury Brand Center, which focuses on selling luxury brands to the masses. No, this place won’t be cheap. Armani, Dior, Gucci and Prada are expected to be among the tenants.
The mall operator says they operate on a “membership” program to keep prices low (similar to Costco, I assume?). ”Low”, being a relative term, of course. It is difficult for luxury brands to compete in the PRD though, because Hong Kong’s luxury brand prices are substantially lower and the city is only a hop, skip and a jump away.
Happy Valley’s soft launch is now, but it expects to be officially open in May.
