Meth The Latest Date Rape Drug of Choice in China?
Posted: 09/12/2014 8:47 amWe tend to associate certain drugs like Rohypnol and GHB with date rape, but any drug can be used, which adds to the fear many women are feeling in China at the moment.
Wu, a woman in Foshan, was contacted by her WeChat acquaintance Pan on August 11 last year. The two arranged to meet for drinks at a local karaoke lounge. They were soon joined by three others, He, Zeng and Ah Feng as they drank and sang songs. Later during dinner, Wu became flush and felt strange. When she confronted the others about her sudden change, none of them said anything.
Wu was later taken to an unnamed hotel where she was raped by three of the men: Zeng, Ah Feng, and Pan. Of the group, He and Ah Feng consumed meth during the ordeal.
Afterwards, the group tried to compensate Wu in order to get her not to report them to the police. However, He was arrested on August 14 last year and Pan was nabbed a week later.
Wu suspected her drink at the karaoke lounge was drugged, saying she can normally drink many beers but only had three when her face turned red, she started to shake, and lost her strength.
According to a drug addiction professional, a first time user of meth will experience euphoria, increased stimulation, hallucinations, and lose their inhibitions, reports Guangzhou Daily.
Police performed a drug urine test on Wu that showed that she had consumed meth at one time. Police do not consider Wu to be an addict.
On September 9, two of the men were sentenced to four years in prison, while a third man got a slightly lesser term, reports the Guangzhou Daily. The other suspects have not been found yet.
A drink drugged with methamphetamine is not a commonly used method to facilitate date rape. And yet, meth and all amphetamines are water soluble, and can be mixed into any drink, making for yet another hidden danger women must be on guard against.
