Guangdong governor in London to talk about the environment
Posted: 10/1/2013 7:00 amGuangdong has moved into the next regime following the appointment of our previous high-profile governor, Wang Yang, as President Xi Jinping’s Vice Premier. The new Guangdong governor, Zhu Xiaodan, has begun making his mark via one of his first overseas tours.
Governor Zhu was in London from September 26 to 28 to discuss low carbon, green tech and sustainability, Nanfang Daily reports.
Admission to the dinner hosted by the China-Britain Business Council which featured Zhu didn’t come cheap, either. The prestigious Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn cost £125-£210 (RMB 1240-2080) plus tax. Businesses were also invited to sponsor the event for £5,000.
During his time in England, Zhu also met BP chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg, Jardine-Matheson chairman Sir Henry Keswick, inspected ZTE’s U.K. operations, and visited the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxford.
According to the council’s website, Mr. Zhu is a native of Wenzhou. He was born in 1953 and joined the CPC in 1975. He attended the graduate school of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee. He was an alternate member of the 17th CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the Guangzhou CPC City Committee, and Director of Standing Committee of Guangzhou People’s Congress. In 2012 he became Governor of Guangdong Province and a member of the 18th CPC Central Committee.
