Dump truck controversy rages on, another involved in a 6-vehicle pileup in Dongguan
Posted: 10/26/2012 7:00 amA dump truck was involved in a six-vehicle pile up in Dongguan at 11 a.m. October 24, according to Southern Metropolis Daily.
Luckily, there don’t appear to have been any serious injuries on this occasion and the cause is being investigated.
After a series of accidents caused by dump trucks, Shenzhen traffic police impounded 47 of the vehicles during an inspection Oct. 23 and Oct. 24, according to Shenzhen Daily.
Police said vehicles with five or more violations will be, impounded.
Drivers of trucks carrying 150 percent or more of legal load capacities could be detained for investigations, and drivers exceeding speed limits by 50 percent could have their licenses revoked, police added.
Other problems involving dump trucks include overloading. Overloaded vehicles were confirmed to have caused the collapse of a ramp leading to a bridge in Harbin in Heilongjiang province in August, according to China Daily.
But most problems involving dump trucks are to do with ignoring red lights, speeding, and other things that suggest the drivers think they’re so big the rules of the road don’t apply to them.
A commenter on a recent forum on the China Daily website remarked that all vehicles in China were out of control, not just a few dump trucks. Knowing that the ignoring of traffic laws is not just the preserve of dump truck drivers, authorities in Shenzhen have introduced tougher measures on pedestrians who ignore red lights, according to local media.
