Baidu’s (hilarious) new app has already spawned a Tumblr site

Just before Chinese New Year, Baidu came out with an innovative new mobile application called Baidu Translate (百度翻译). It offers traditional translation by typing in terms, but now gives users the ability to snap a photo of something, circle it, and let Baidu’s computing power identify the object in both Chinese and English.

Needless to say, this has become the biggest mobile toy since Siri. Apparently Baidu Translate is accurate a lot of the time, but in our own testing those instances were few and far between. In fact, Baidu Translate became a bit of a hit at Spring Festival parties over the holiday.
