All of Guangdong Province’s live poultry markets to close for a day
Posted: 05/3/2013 10:00 amThe provincial government has ordered that all live poultry markets in Guangdong be closed for a day in a measure that starts today and will finish Sunday May 5, Southern Metropolis Daily reports.
Humans have been found to be infected with the disease in neighboring provinces such as Fujian, and Chen Yuansheng, of the Provincial Department of Health, said in a meeting April 30 that local health administrators should cooperate better with the provincial government.
It is now “influenza season” in Guangdong and a chicken tested positive for bird flu in Dongguan last week. However, officials stressed that the strain of the H7 virus that was detected was not H7N9.
In related news, a man was arrested in Shenzhen last Thursday and will spend 10 days in detention for falsely spreading a rumor that a local patient was suffering from the H7N9 bird flu virus, Shenzhen Daily reported. His reason? He was bored.
